This will not be a review but rather a listing of the quickly emerging site for the upcoming Kuwait elections. I am sure I’m missing a lot more than I’m listing, so feel free to comment on the ones that are missed and I will add them.

KuwaitElect.com: Kuwait election news and services for the candidates. Services range from general information about the candidate, to video coverage and even LIVE broadcast from his campaign.

Oma 2008: In addition to the election news, list of candidates, you get to vote early online and see the trend of votes going to whom. So far, results are surprising with Dr. Fatemah Al-Abdeli #2 in First Circle.

VoteForKuwait.com: Election news, stats, and a look geographical at votes distribution on Kuwait map.

HaithamAlShaya.com: Haitham Al-Sahaya candidate page.

RolaDashti.com: Rola Dashti. Still under construction.

From there you can select one of 14 predefined gift basket categories, like birthday baskets, corporate gift baskets, wedding, new baby, passion and others. The way to order is by selecting the type of gift you are looking for, after which the store will give you a call to further discuss the details of your gift basket content, look and final pricing. You get a chance to see the basket physically before sending it, or just do with a picture of it. Process is not 100% automated, and being custom made, I don’t think you can use it for next day delivery orders as well. But for custom gift baskets, I guess it’s very difficult to have it so, and you may prefer customizing it for the occasion, and check it before it’s sent over. Payment is possible in cash, money orders, wire transfer, or company checks. Some sample photos below.

USER EXPERIENCE UPDATE:

Sometimes things just happen at the right time. When I wrote about this site it didn’t come to my mind I have an occasion coming up, and I didn’t prepare anything for it yet. Soon after I realized this is the perfect easy way to have my gift ready while I’m at home, and give the site a shot as well. I didn’t use the contact form I just called the number directly, trying to figure if they can prepare something within 24 hours. It was as I expected, home based business but with professional and focused service. You get to talk to the lady, explain the occasion and kind of baskets you are looking for. Give an estimate of the price so that she can help in recommending the items inside the basket. I asked for a sample of similar baskets and got it sent soon after to my email.

Giving her the OK, next morning I got an email and SMS notice to check the photos of the basket. Due to my time constraints, I did it this way, but she offers a physical check of the basket before final wrapping as well. Delivery is available at no extra cost, but in my case, I chose to do the pickup from their home location. The basket was larger than I expected, looked really nice as well.

I have not compared the prices to outside ones, but it’s a good service that for me might be worth the money. Sorry I cannot say the price here, as it’s a gift and normally you do not disclose gift prices .

WebHosting.info is not a Kuwaiti site, but it’s a great place to see information and statistics about domain names and hosts. And what makes it related to Kuwait, is their per-country grouping for those information. So as you can see below, you can get list of the top Kuwait hosting companies. Over 2000 domains for KUWAITNET, more than double their competitor. Point to make is that this company is running everything completely on open source systems and tools, from Linux, to Open Office, Thunderbird, Firefox, and even their billing system is built internally using PHP. Pretty impressive. You can also visit this link to see the total gain and loss in Kuwaiti domains.

over 12,000 registerd Kuwaiti domains, WOW. Before seeing the stats, one could think we are close to 5,000 only. Guess we’ll be having a lot to talk about then ha!. However, I was surprised to see the small growth, and also decline in number of domains recently. As the way I see it, online business in Kuwait is just starting to boom.

Ahmad Al-Awadi is an ambitious young freelance filmmaker who is a Bachelor holder in Business Administration. I have seen several Kuwaiti filmmaking attempts before maybe, but this one is the type of short 5 min movies, light, fun, and you can tell he has a taste in his direction and the camera angles he chose. The actors them selves are not so bad either, and if we compare them with the commercial ones we see on TV, well I could say this one made me laugh more. You can see his YouTube page here. He’s only got couple of short films right now, but perhaps you like to subscribe to his videos.

Kuwait ISPs might look like just a blog, but it is a blog with great potential value. Kuwait ISPs is a blog where you will find information, download/upload rates from all various ISPs in Kuwait, from all the different plans. The site is just starting, but you among others can help build it to grow larger, and become the place to go and make a choice about your ISPs. VoteForKuwait is a newly launched site for the upcoming elections. If you are so much into the elections, or want a place to read summary of the election news, this site provides the following:

The elections map is what I liked the most. On Google Map, you can see Kuwait election areas, and the number of voters in each area.
